As part of our intern program, you can expect to encounter an unparalleled variety and depth of criminal defense litigation. What do PDO Legal Interns do?

  • Assigned to work directly with attorneys on all stages of a criminal case
    • Attend daily court settings, hearings, trials, client meetings, and scene visits
    • Weekly training taught by attorneys including topics on:
      • Client Relations, Case Management, & Professionalism; Wellness & Self-Care; Trial Prep & Texas Rules of Evidence; Mitigation; Cross & Direct Examinations; Closing Arguments & Opening Statements; Motions to Suppress; Bail and Probable Cause Hearings; Grand Jury Packets; Motions Practice; Negotiations; Punishment; Padilla; and Voir Dire & Challenges for Cause
  • Attends CLEs and connect with defense lawyers, DAs, and judges
  • End of semester Mock Trial participation on an actual PDO Felony case

Who should apply?

Applicants are preferred to be:

  1. Interested in criminal defense
  2. 2L or 3L law students or 1L with relevant experience
  3. Available at least 20 hrs / 3 days per week during the 12-week period
  4. Compliance with confidentiality agreement

Application Period

Interviews are held virtually, and applicants are accepted on a rolling basis.

Summer sessions follow the 12-week internship dates set by Houston area law schools and firms.

Fall and Spring sessions begin the first week of school of Houston area law schools and are 12-weeks long.
