Topic: This training will examine the intersection of criminal cases and civil protective orders, focusing on how parallel proceedings arising from the same incident can affect one another and the client as a whole. The presentation will cover key procedural and evidentiary differences, how developments in one proceeding may shape the other, and practical considerations for coordinating defense strategy across both cases. Attorneys will learn why understanding and actively considering the protective-order proceeding is an important part of representing a client facing related criminal charges.

Speaker: Breanna Reeves

Breanna Reeves is an Assistant Public Defender in the Holistic Division of the Harris County Public Defender’s Office, where she specializes in civil protective order defense for clients who are also charged with criminal cases. Before joining HCPDO, Breanna earned her law degree from Howard University School of Law and then practiced as an associate attorney at Hogan Lovells in Washington, D.C. She brings a client-centered perspective to navigating the legal issues and collateral consequences that can arise across related proceedings.
