This training will explore the impact of repeated exposure to trauma, high-stakes advocacy, and the demands of the criminal legal system on defense attorneys. Participants will learn to recognize signs of burnout and secondary trauma in themselves and their colleagues and consider practical strategies for maintaining well-being while doing demanding, meaningful work.
Speaker: Terry Bentley Hill
Terry Bentley Hill is a Dallas criminal defense attorney, nationally recognized mental health advocate, and longtime advocate for attorney well-being. She is the founder and owner of the Law Office of Terry Bentley Hill and focuses her criminal defense practice on cases involving mental health and substance use issues. Hill has served in leadership roles with the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program (TLAP) and the Dallas Bar Association’s Peer Assistance Committee and has received the State Bar of Texas Presidential Citation for her work supporting attorneys struggling with mental health and substance use. She is a sought-after speaker on mental health, attorney wellness, and the unique challenges facing members of the legal profession.
