David Williams
Chief Investigator
David Williams has been with the Harris County Public Defender’s office for 14 years as a Criminal Investigator. He is now the Chief Investigator over the office, bringing over 30 years of comprehensive experience in high-stakes investigations and team leadership. In his leadership role, he provides direct oversight of investigative staff, mitigates attorney-related issues, and ensures operations align with the highest legal and ethical standards of the HCPDO.
A dedicated advocate for the investigative profession, David recently developed a structured ninety-day training program for incoming associate investigators. His tenure at the Harris County Public Defender’s Office, which began in 2012, is marked by significant operational and legislative achievements. He notably orchestrated the 2013 passage of SB 1044, securing free access to the DPS Secure site for all Texas Public Defender Offices, and is currently spearheading legislative efforts to further expand statewide data access.
David’s foundational background includes managing large-scale asset protection teams, directing civil and criminal investigations. David is an alumnus of Prairie View A&M University.
