Amanda G. Downing
JUVENILE DIVISION CHIEF
Amanda G. Downing currently serves as the Division Chief in the Juvenile Division of the Harris County Public Defender’s Office, a position she assumed in April 2026. She originally joined the office in November 2011, coinciding with the establishment of the juvenile division. Before her tenure at the Public Defender’s Office, Amanda practiced law privately, specializing in juvenile, criminal, and family law cases. Her professional experience also includes work as a political consultant and employment with a Houston-based non-profit organization dedicated to expanding educational opportunities for underprivileged children.
Amanda earned her Bachelor of Science in political science from Texas A&M University in 2001, graduated from South Texas College of Law in December 2006, and began her legal career in May 2007.
