This presentation provides key strategies for handling foreign language evidence in court. We’ll cover issue-spotting, pretrial litigation, and trial challenges, including the State’s attempts to introduce unreliable translations or interpretations—and how to counter them. We’ll conclude by exploring methods to encourage juries to fairly evaluate foreign language evidence in their deliberations. Whether you or your clients speak a language other than English, it is important to know how to navigate foreign language evidence in a criminal courtroom.
